'Curious Incident' Dazzles the Eyes and Ears!

Originally an acclaimed novel by author Mark Haddon, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” takes you on a journey of a young autistic man who proves that his mind can wander. You are introduced to Christopher Boone, who takes on a Sherlock Holmes-style murder-mystery adventure to solve the murder of his neighbor’s dog. The show uses an elaborate set and technical effects to help bring the story alive.

The show is narrated by 3 people: Christopher’s mentor portrayed by Maria Elena Ramirez, the small ensemble and of course, Christopher himself, played to perfection by young Adam Langdon.

I have to say that the role of Christopher has to be one of the hardest roles in theater. Langdon, who is one of two Christophers for the show, proves to us how deep you can get in a role. On his journey to find the murderer, he helps us find clues, along with the help of the lights, sounds and graphics on the stage. Langdon carried the show gracefully on his shoulders. The rest of the cast was great in the little roles they had.

A big hit in London and New York, “Curious Incident” proved to be a hit in Chicago as well. The only problem I had with the show was the space. I felt like this show belongs in a smaller theater because of how intimate it is. The Oriental Theatre felt too big.

Another highlight of the show is a “math equation” that Christopher goes over with the audience after the show is over. It is truly an interactive experience.
